About Us and this Blog

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Service at the University of Cumbria aims to support students who are experiencing difficulties, which are affecting their mental health and emotional wellbeing. We work with students to help develop practical coping strategies and solutions to enable them to work through their difficulties so that they can keep on track and achieve their academic and personal goals. Here is a link to a page with information about our service

Our work is about promoting student wellbeing. This can take a number of different forms, including providing a space for the students to share their feelings and provide emotional support and advice where appropriate.

Students come to us for a whole range of reasons, low mood, anxiety, academic stress, relationship problems (with friends, partner, family, peers, etc.), poor sleep, bereavement, anger, abuse, homesickness, etc. If you are struggling with any of these issues (or something not mentioned here), then we may be able to help. Firstly, look through our blog, and see if you can find hints and tips that you can try for yourself, to see if they make a positive difference. If having tried the hints and tips, then why not refer yourself to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Service? If you have any suggestions for topics for the blog, please do let us know.
